I'm looking At a 95 golf and after the guy changed the timing belt he said it smells like burning wires inside? why?
could have the tensioner on backwards rubbing like CRAZY on the timing belt.
you should also probably hear a high pitch squeel if that is happening though... unless he doesn't know what a diesel sounds like and just thinks the screaming sound is normal (had that happen to my car once before :roll: . I come out side... "Wait what is ... SHUT IT OFF!!! Belts are rubbing!"
Its a 2.0l Gasser, and there was smoke inside the car and now it won't start anymore, will turn over but not start. I was looking at buying it for a second car
I haven't done a gasser, but I would imagine if the cover is like the one on my diesel it can be missaligned a little. Then it rubs and could smoke. Why it wouldn't start I don't know, unless he did some other work when doing the timing or it slipped a little and won't run? just guesses.
If he smelled burning wires and got smoke INSIDE the car, then I would say some wires def got burned so they would need to be found and new wires ran.
yeah sorry i assumed you were talking about a diesel... :roll: (little to no wiring on our IDI's

)
