After a good life of 80k miles, my 2002 TDI injection pump began leaking.
I diagnosed it as an o ring issue and found that it is possible to replace this O ring without removing the pump. dieselgeek.com sells a kit to do this. Long story short, somehow I managed to cross thread a bolt that connects the pump lead (cast) to the aluminum pump body. Not wanting to make things worse, I left it alone.
I am pretty sure that the pump was leaking from at least one spot, and I don't see why it would not leak from more spots in the near future. So I think I should just get a new pump.
Maybe I could send mine off for core, if whoever takes it can fix the cross threaded bit.
Does anyone on here have, for sale, a 10 or 11 mm pump for a 2002?
If you are just looking for a reseal, there are a few guys on the forum who can do it correctly for you.
I had one of mine vibrate almost all the way out and the pump didn't leak so you might be just fine with the single buggered one. Also thats the hardest seal to do the rest are much easier but you have to pull the pump off.
You could take the pump off and heli coil it or you might get lucky and a alone tap could fix the threads.
