If you are referring to the 97 with an AAZ motor, they run out of oomph bigtime above 4000 rpm. Perhaps your IP has a weak overspeed governer setup. It certainly feels that they should be able to pull somewhat higher revs. My 93 drops off like a stone above 4000 while my 92 will rev much higher. Cheers Dan

I find it funny that it does that, it climbs up to 4000 just fine and it stops...foot to floor no more fuel...I think i should push a diesel with 368,000km that hard  but I am known for blowing up cars

The Governer mod helps alot, I can rev my AAZ to 5200rpm no problem.

http://mebonty.monobasin.net/vepump.htmlhttp://www.vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=2300Both found in the FAQ. The 2nd link is not quite right. Don't touch the Intermediate spring (the one in the middle) Just shim the main spring about 1/4". This will help you not to shut down fueling. Also take pictures of the top of your pump before you touch it, this will help to put it back together. The 2nd link is good for its pictures and may help you to ask the correct questions if needed. Regular washers are acceptable for shims. Have fun.

Just a question... When you say you are topping out at 150kmph, what gear are you in? What transmission do you have?

I'm in 5th and i have the original tranny on it. at around 3600 it starts slowing up and stops at 4000, my foot is right on the floor, I'm starting to think my motor is worn out.

368,000 aint that much really.. I dunno.. I knew the gov starts to cut fueling.. but not so much that it just stops going up.. usually its to the point where it will climb slowly but steadily no?

Does it still start decent in cold weather??? That isn't really that high of milage err I guess kilometerage for one of these... Even beating the hell out of it.... The 1.5 in the ole Frankenbunny had 546,00 miles (885,000 kms) Ran about the same as yours till I had the pump rebuilt.. Ran fairly well after that till the HG blew and it got freshened up..
Unless you have low gears (what's the code on your trans?) Your pump just may need some molestation... Time to call Giles...
