Pretty slick stuff.
Contrary to what you might think, the larger part of each runner is full time, and the smaller ones open up at higher rpm.
The intake ports are also similarly divided and have a wicked swirl ramp built in at the back of the valve.
This ain't no ME engine!!

Isn't that second port designed to be for the EGR?

What engine is that off of? I didn't think the BRM has anything like that.

Correct. You're actually using less of the manifold runner for "clean" air than the old style TDI intake, I didn't think that the 2nd smaller runner opens up at a certain RPM, I thought it was strictly an emissions thing. I could be wrong though.

I could mount one on my 1.9 na, use a solinoid with a vacuum source which controls the valve to open that extra bit at WOT while using a TD pump and have the same control to pull the LDA !! just a quick thought but it might work.

You could make a pretty wild intake out of that.just tig on a straight chamber with halfcut tube on top.Like a passenger only improved, then spray water/meth into the individual ports.

It's from a BEW.
Could very well be EGR related. I ASSuMEd it was to improve port velocity for low rpm power.

I would think that it's to keep the fresh intake air seperate from the EGR gases. This would reduce the manifold clogging that occurs over time when the EGR soot combines with the CCV and turbo bearing blowby oil.

I can tell you for sure, both sides of each runner were equally filthy! This pic was taken after cleaning. If that's what the design is for, it's a total flop!
