Now, this has happen twice before and along with my GP problems I'm about to drive it off a cliff. So my gas guage doesn't work along with my odometer. I figured I had driven about 300 miles on the tank of gas today when I ran out of gas. I've put 12.5 gallons in the tank before so I know it is at least that big. Figure I can go between 500 and 600 miles between fill ups. Well it ran out today and when I went to fill it the damn thing only takes 6 gallons!! After that it is spewing onto the concrete! I slown it down for foaming but it won't take anymore. It has done this twice before and I can't figure out why it thinks it is out of gas when it seems that it is not. The fuel filter was not all full either when I pulled it off to fill it with diesel. What is going on? Is it a fuel pump issue or something else? Please give me some insight.
I think you may want to pop the access hatch to the fuel tank and have a look. It sounds like the pickup could be damaged or plugged with junk. I suspect that's why you have fuel left but have sucked the filter dry. How old is the fuel filter?
hmmmm, I wonder what kind of car he has.
Sorry, it is a 1983 Quantum TD. Where is the access hatch? I replaced the fuel filter about 3,000 miles ago, just before I drove it from NJ to Colorado 2 weeks ago. Before that I had driven it around NJ for about 500 miles in 3 weeks and before that it sat for 3 months.
