hi...i'm having a little bit of a problem figuring out which turbo woluld be best for my 1.6 td JR engine. I have a stock turbine now and it developed a slack in the bearings...and now it looses oil constantly....
the dilema is: which turbine would be best?
one from an 1.9 AAZ or one from an 1.6 SB which has both water and oil inlets?
any one is good, smaller than the T3 or K24 so you will have less spool and more boost at low revs.
the RA/SB has water cooling, so you have to get the water pipes, replace a plug on the block and get the electric water pump as well.

the only benefit to the watercooled one is so that you can circulate the hot coolant even after the engine is off. otherwise you would need to let the car idle, or install a turbo timer.
that being said, i don't use a turbo timer, and let my engine cool off for about 30-60 seconds if i really spanked it. with the newer oils you don't really need to let it cool down as much as with regular non synthetic oils.
if you want high boost in the upper rpm range (3k+) then go with the T3/K24. if you want boost right away, but don't want more than 12-15 psi, then go with the K03. the K03 is better for driveability and great for windy/hilly/frequent stop roads.
sorry for asking more.....i'm not familiar with the types of turbine....i can get theese two types of turbines that came of an AAZ and from a SB, i only know that the one from SB is a KKK but i don't know the type....
as i know my stock turbine is a t3
could anyone enlighten me pliz.
yours is a big one, you get boost over 2500RPM
try to get the AAZ one, less hassle, remember to also get the return hose as they are different.
as it is a smaller unit you get boost faster and from a lower RPM.
the downside is that it loses efficiency after 15PSI, as jtanguay said.
i realised that the sb would be more complicated to fit, but as you say it isn't worth the effort..i will try to make the swap next week and i will update you
got the kkk turbo from an aaz...will fit it this weekend...
done, result: quiker response at lower rpm, more kick...satisfied with it.
to come....intercooler...if i can find a little space for it, it's kinda crowded.
