Between the k14 and k24 turbo, which one is best suited for the 1.9 AAZ engine? I have 2 k14 turbos and I am pretty sure I have 1 k24 turbo (have to double check). Also, does anyone know how to increase boost on the turbo if there is no external lever to adjust?? Thanks.

Depends. What all are you planning on doing to the car? Is it mostly city/highway/race course?

It will be mostly highway with a bit of city driving. I like the low end torque and the ability to get up to speed fast but at the same time like to be able to pass someone on the highway when I push the go pedal.

Your elevation will come into play as well when picking a turbo

i have the K24 on mine and i do mostly 90% higway so the turbo is barly working but when ipush the pedal down she really pulls its a joy to drive on the highway no problems passing anymore.....even city once you get the revs up to about 3000+ RPM she pulls like its crazy what a difference just a bigger tuyrbo makes , yes more lag but its worth it if y a like the top end power!
i run about 17 PSI and she pulls nice i would like to run higher but i dont know if there are any damaging effects with higher boost. i do have gauges to monitor the exhuast temp and such but i just am not sure if running 20 + is hard on the turbo?

?
can i wear the turbo seals out faster when i run higher boost im not talking like 30PSI or anything but maybe like 20-22 + if anyone has insite to that that would be great .....not trying to highjack the post or anything as my definate pick would be the K24 for sure!

I have the baby k03-003 on my AAZ passat. It'll accelerate up a steep incline in 4th gear from 2000 rpm, with the A/C on! Show me a k24 or even k14 AAZ passat that'll do that!
Smaller is better, unless you're going for big numbers which typically exist only in a frustratingly narrow band.
AAZ's don't like to rev anyway, might as well make the power down low where they like to exist.

I agree with Dr.Diesel, I'm running a T3 on my AAZ with stock exhaust ( modded for T3 outlet ) and it spools from about 2500 RPM. with a 3" exhaust it will be better but as is the power ( lots of power @ 26 PSI ) is only on a narrow band.

in my own oppinion the K03 is a joke! like its like the size on my fist.....for around city sure maybe but having the K24 on its night and day.......it starts spooling around 2800 but until then it just feels like theres still that K03 on then it hits you.....even when i played with the boost on it wheather it was 8-10 or 15 no difference......somone that pulls a trailer or goes hill climbing everyday i would recomend for for anyone lookibg for some extra pull but still city drivable and highway is a dream!
i have heard the K14 is bigger then the K03 this true??

Looks like I will be putting the K14 turbo on this engine build. Does anyone know how to adjust the boost level on one of these turbos if there is no external lever to adjust?? Thanks

There is a screw I believe with a locknut on it, sticking out from the waste gate housing.

yep you can cut the line and put on a cheap fleabay boost controller!
i think i paid like 5bucks for them but i did buy 2 because thier so cheap!
even a old motorcycle fuel shut off will work !
all your doing is tricking the wastgate on it's actual boost pressure!
pretty simple!

the more you turn the screw in the more you are blocking, so the wastegate doesnt see the boost(more screw is more boost) , if you turn in all the way you turbo will produce max boost, wouldnt recommend that, but ya screw all the way out its like stock, pretty straight forward

Is 15 psi boost for a K14 turbo safe? How much boost can I go before I need to add an intercooler? If I need to add an intercooler which kind or type would I buy to work with this setup?? Thanks

I think you can run a K-14 up to 18 psi or so safely, but the more the boost, the less efficient it is and the more heat generated, so yes an IC will help at 15 PSI.
