hey guys,
my aaz has started making an intermittent screeching changing to rumbling noise whilst running. engine rpm appears to have little effect on the noise, which half the time sounds like big end bearing noise and the other half of the time changes to a high pitched screech, a bit like belt slip, but not - i've checked.
with the v belt running the water pump and power steering removed, the noise goes away completely, so i have narrowed the problem to either the water pump or power steering pump.
the water pump does not leak, and appears to turn freely enough. the power steering pump does seem to leak a little from the front seal, and there seems to be a little backlash in the power steering pump.
also, when running, i think i can see a little end play in the water pump, but this is diffcult to see as it is only small, so i am unsure.
just wanting to know what visible/auditory simptoms can be detected if either the water pump or power steering pump are failing.
cheers,
Get a long screwdriver, or a broomstick would work as well, put it to your ear and put the other end on the WP, then the PS pump. You will be able to tell which is making the noise. Old school technology.
ofcourse, the old mechanical stethoscope... i forgot :-)
