• Has anyone run  a scangauge on their 1996 vw's diesels? Borrowed my buddies to try it out and it just says connecting and nothing happens.
  
  I saw on the scangauge site that it works on all 1996s an ups except the ones with the black box ecu. Does the 1996 diesels  have the black box ecu? Where is the ecu on these cars for me to check?

• There's no ECU, so nothing will answer when your scangauge says

• Damn. I was think that since it had a OBDII port it would work.

• the port works, but for ABS, airbags and other smart contraptions
