I was curious if anybody knew if any companies made an adapter plate for the 1.6l VW diesel to fit any of the 2.2/2.5l dodge 80's trannies?
I know back in the day omni's were fitted with the 1.7l gasser and a dodge auto tranny 404 or something like that but was wondering about doing a diesel engine swap into an omni and the tranny part is the most difficult, mounts and all the other crap won't be that big of a deal.
any input greatly appreciated

i have a decent rabbit you can have for cheap. that way there's no fiddling around and you can have the original, and not an imitation! hehehe
It might be the same bolt pattern. I looked at a 2.2 out of a van and it sure looked the same. I was thinking at one time about putting a diesel in a dodge minivan. The only thing I noticed that was a major difference was the bolt pattern on the crank.

Using the chrysler automatic is a trend that has been growing for several years. To fit a VW engine to a dodge trans you'll need the bell housing off of an omni with the 1.7 VW gas engine. There were some rare stick shift Omni's with the VW 1.7 which actually used a VW 020 transmission. So, either way if you can find a 1.7 powered Omni either for the destination of the engine or for a parts car you should be set.
