Been offered a good deal on a 93 golf with the trans out of it (ran it out of oil apparently). Got lots of mk 2 parts sitting around...............
Someone's got to know!!
THink I'm going to buy the car even if it won't fit. After all, who couldn't use a spare AAZ???
Yeah it should work. I think the clutches/splines are different (could be wrong) and you will need to upgrade to 100mm axles. Also, you'll need to track down the speed sensor. I'm not sure if it will work in the mk2 box though. Spedometers are overrated anyways
Thanks. I'll have to safety teh car, so the speedo is important.......
More updates tomorrow.
AAZ/mk3 trannys are cheap anyways
a friend has an mk2 trans in his 94 jetta gl ....he is using a mk2 cluster....it almost looks factory too
i'va got a mk2 trans in my '98 jetta. all bolted up no problem except for the back-up lights. had to wire a seperate switch

also speedometer is 10kph fast
Good to know, thanks! Does that mean the sending unit from the mk3 goes right into the mk 2 trans? Sure makes life easy!
Went to see the car, but the owner is moving and is pretty sure the key has moved already. I'm in no rush, so he'll call me when he's back in town. Car looks all there, rusty behind the front wheels and a poor fibreglass job. No air conditioning (Yayyy!!!) 400,000 + kms, looks like maybe some blowby but he says it starts and runs good, so we'll see. Good tires etc. so I guess if it runs it's worth the 500 he asked me........
I have used the mkII trans in my MKIII and it works great. just make sure you use the 100MM flanges and the MKIII axles. you can use the speedo sensor from the MKIII trans and put it in the MKII trans. it is a direct fit. You may need to change out clutch discs though. depends on the size. I was usuing a 2Y transmission in my MKIII GL for the longest time.
Good luck! everything will work out fine.
