pics. please of the gasket (s) overlayed onto the block.
1.6L hydraulic diesel head and gasket on top of the non-hydraulic block....
and the: hydraulic head flipped upside down with the non-hydraulic (early) gasket
overlayed on that...purdy please....
So this "void"overlaps that water hole and goes to the outer edge of the block, so
the water follows that......
If we use the old style head gasket that "void" between the head and block is
filled by the head gasket, but additional water holes have to be punched in the head gasket..?? .if there are more water passages......whaddya say?

i made a post a while back about how to do all the different combos, you can put the hydro head on the solid lifter block by using the solid lifter head gasket and then also block the extra oil drain hole on the front of the head.
the way I understand it is the same as Trev0rbr, the hydro head with the second return blocked and a solid lifter gasket.
I just did this conversion. I cleaned the 2nd (smaller) oil drain w/brake cleaner then filled w/JB putty (not the paste), use a pencil (eraser side) from top to compress putty and eliminate leakage,(you only need to fill about 3/4-1in, trim excess on mating surface w/rasor then install as normal.
This is how I did it, it may or may not be the best but it sure beats taking it to a head shop and tapping, plugging, and grinding the hole.

Well crap, sorry mrmike I dont have pics of the gasket on the block but I just completed a solid lifter block/ hydro head conversion with a metal AAZ head gasket.

I have seen some pics of the gaskets on the surfaces you mentioned posted here but I dont remember and didnt save where.
