Hi all
I finally completed my conversion to AAZ a week ago and amongst the things I added (list to come soom) is an oil to air oil cooler. I removed the stock oil to water cooler and mounted a thermostat controlled sandwich plate which opens at 80 degerees Celcius.
Advantages over stock oil to water cooler are that oil gets to 85-90 degrees much faster, as well as noticing that the cooling system itself is running much cooler... possibly due to having a decreased load to cool the oil as well as engine block.
During hard driving, the highest I managed to get the oil is 118 degrees Celcius, however, after 15 minutes of traffic following a lengthy drive, the temperature soars up to 134-140 degrees celcius.
I'm currently using Gulf Multigrade for high performance diesels 15w40 as a break in oil, and will soon switch to shell semi sinthetic turbo diesel oil 10w40, but i don;t think that oil temperature would vary much between them.
What is the best operating temperature for oil in an aaz?
Thanks
Daniel
Maybe you should switch to sinthetic oil, if i see your high oil temperatures. This because semi-sinthetic oil "decomposes" with temperatures higher than 110°C losing its lubricating properties. The words i heard from a wise old man

What oil grade should i go for? I was thinking 10w40 but now they are telling me that since over here we're considered a moderate-hot climate (lowest temps we got this winter were 7 deg celcius and right now we're already at 29 deg celcius) i should go for at least 15w40 maybe 20w50...
