You can also find a k24 from a mk2. They are a bit better than the T3 at higher boosts.
I am custom fitting a GT1749 to my 2.1 AAZ engine. Will post any feedback here when it's running.

Beg to differ here. I tried em both and the T3 is the answer. Now to button down the hatches for the innevitable flamers. :roll:

They are practically the same, they are both very good at handling high pressure. If both were to be pushed to the limit, the T3 usually breaks down just a bit faster. However, not many take it that close to the limit. :wink:

K24??
In France
K03 -> AHU, possibly 1Z (1900 TDI) (1)
K14 -> two models - small (2) on RA/SB (1600 TD 80 ch) - larger on AAZ (1900 TD)
Garrett T3 -> JR (1600 TD 70 ch)
K24 -> JR and similar (1600 TD 70 ch) engine on Mk1
_
(1) Only the K03 and the GT15 turbos seem to have that triangular "bolting pattern" - on the exhaust manifold, while the other turbos above seem to have the same (T3-like) bolting pattern
(2) The "small" K14 appeared to be (sometimes) replaced by a T2 - same as K24/T3 - note : there seem to be more T3 and K14 here

You're welcome, but I do not know anything about the MF engine (only JR & RA/SB). How many Hp(ch) is it ?
80 ch is either equipped with a T2 or K14 - most likely watercooled, otherwise that is T3/K24 - normally. If it is 1989 it is probably a JR - with a T3. Is the turbo a Garrett ?
... and, er ... I thought that was written above: the AAZ is normally equipped with the larger - oilcooled - K14.
As far as I know all that is written on the turbos - but the nature of the cooling ... of course

Later AAZ engines can also have a k03 turbo. Usually combined with an EGR system.
At least in Europe this is.
RA/SB engines can have a non-watercooled turbo as well. This is mostly the k14 I believe. Haven't seen them with the bigger k24 / T3 turbo's yet.
Watercooled turbos are the k14/6 and the garret T2.
