The temp gauge in my jetta, doesn't like to work. Its an '89. There is a 1.6 NA in it right now but originally a TD. It works for a few minutes, but once the car gets warmed up, it quits. I don't think its the sender (I'll replace it to be sure).
I have a few gasser clusters lying around, are the gauges interchangeable or not? Does anyone know? Thanks
There's quite a few threads on changing out guages in the clusters both here and the other listserver. In three diesels I've changed out 3 clusters with ones from other cars and the readings are always the same (temp). It's the sender that'll make a variation, depends on the manufactured tolerance. I did replace one on the Golf and it immediately went to 3/4 scale on the guage when it warmed up the first time. That became the new baseline. Didn't like that so I put in a VAG part from the stealership and it went back to happily gurgling a hair above the 1/2 mark forever and ever...
ETKA doesn't call out the individual gauges as part numbers so it's hard to say for sure, but I can't think of any reason why the gauges (other than the tach) would be different, and we know that VW has worked hard to reuse parts between the two platforms.
If it was me I'd go for it... diesel-specific clusters aren't exactly growing on trees these days.
well this is good news. I couldn't see a reason why they wouldn't work either.
