What is an upshift light in mkIIss???
yeah I rememeber reading something about this too....
doesnt it get switched on when you reach max rpm?
What the number of the upshift light relay?? i know the location on the fuse box is num 4th relay on the second row.
and will my 89 1.6TD have it? it has the arrow in the cluster and a big black reverse light switch with four wires....
It is relay #4.... not sure what you are asking by "what's the number" though:
http://www.xjamiex.com/mk2resource/electrical/CE1.htmlThe telltale signs are:
- the upshift arrow in the cluster
- large reverse switch on the transmission with multiple wires
- two switches on the injection pump that detect "idle" and "full throttle"
On diesels it uses a very simple circuit that tells you to switch gears at a fairly low RPM unless you are already in 5th gear OR are at full throttle.
By relay number i meant... those WHITE numbers written on top of original relay...
I dont have any relay in mycar at the #4 location.... so what relay am i suppose to get??
and u mean my car does have that feature..although my ip has only one electrical connection to it and tahts the solenoid.
Sounds like someone deleted the additional wiring to the IP... the upshift light won't work without the additional micro switches afaik.
Very very very common for people to defeat the system... it is so simplistic in nature as to be pretty useless by most accounts.
hmm...
do u have any picture of the wire on the ip?? or if u can tell me where it is suppose to be on the ip and where does the other end go??
There are two large switches and 4 wires plus a wiring harness.
The switches are about 3 inches long, with a plunger and a rubber boot.
One switch clips onto a square cutout on the throttle bracket and is activated when the throttle is at idle. The other switch clips into a square cutout on the throttle bracket and is activated by full throttle.
The switches sit on the pump like this:
