I'm rebuilding a 1.6 TD Quantum motor. Engine had about 170k miles on it. Internally it looks pretty good, the usual chunked intermediate shaft bearings, but otherwise OK.
Do you think it is worthwhile to drill out the oil gallery plugs in the crank to clean out the passages? If so, what's the best way to replug them?
moT
Fill the gallery with brake cleaner solvent, leave to soak, then airline them out, redo this until clean solvent comes out,job done

Since you asked......
Drill, punch the little egg-suckers out. use carb cleaner, breake cleaner, whatever, air hose to remove all the gunk et all.
Drill and tap for a socket head plug. Install same with some nice Lok-Tite type substance.
Done!!
Pour self beers
There are some really long bottle style brushes available for cleaning out the oil galleries. Try your local speed shop for these. I'm not sure I would remove the plugs unless I suspected some kind of abrasive contamination had gotten into the oil passages. I probably would just rinse with solvent, brake cleaner and blow out with an air hose. Cheers Dan
Those plugs cost just a few cents apeice from the dealer.
Take them out, clean and get new ones. Order extra so you have them for the next motor or for your freinds or in case you mess on up on install.
