Head gasket question

I have the early 1981 1.6l diesel engine with the 11mm head bolts. If I drill out the holes for the 12mm head bolts, will the 12mm head gasket work? I was told the oil passages are different.

Why are you trying to use the 12mm gasket?

Well if I put 12mm head bolts in wouldn't the holes be to small in the 11mm head gasket?

Huh?
Did you switch the head or the block?
Why are trying to put in 12mm bolts?

Everything is the stock 11mm. I want to put in 12mm head bolts so I won't blow the head gasket as easy when I do some performance mods on the engine.

The jury is still out on the metal head gasket on my scirocco so I cant really recommend that at this time.
Be careful about the ARP if you dotn plan on retorquing them. They will need it over time.
Try to source an NA 12mm block if your funds are limited.

Ahhh, I got ya now.
I would personally go with the head studs or source out a 12mm head and block (or at least a block and drill out the head)

AAZ are 12 mm. Do a search for ARP on the forum and you will find the #s. In ARP's book, they are listed for a Cosworth.
