  I still have my 97 TDI with 1Z. This one is out of my dad's previously abused 98 Jetta, an AHU. We got a spare piston from Diesel Dazzler, had the rod straightened, bought a head and it lives again :wink:

  However, the skirts are longer front & back than on the sides where the pin is, so it appears to be ~13.15mm from the bottom of the pin hole to the lowest part of the skirt.
  
  Taken as approximates, that should tell you whether it's within the margin of error or unworkable.

  Bottom of pin to bottom of piston below pin-7.73mm.
  Bottom of lowest skirt to bottom of pin-12.9mm
  Look about identical to me!
