  the mk3 is a bit lighter than a mk4 though, so that will help quite a bit

• Mike and TinTin, I understand that you both are running a proper ecu but what is the bare minimum to make that engine run as in the European example that was cited?  It appears that other than the standard glowplug and starter there are 5 or 6 wires that feed into the injection system harness.  I understand that the unit injectors are fired by rockers off of the cam shaft so if the engine is turning they should be able to fire but what takes place of the shut of solenoid?
  
   Is each injector simply pulse modulated meaning that if you give them constant power and turn the key  the engine will run, then cut power to shut it off?  How would you control fueling?
  
  It has been a few years since I have looked unther the valve cover of a PD but I seem to remember that the injector wiring was just a simple power and ground to the solenoid.

• It's simple, It have 5 wire from the ECU to the injector unit, 1 common ground and 4 wire for each injector, it's the ECU which control all the injector.
  
  On a VE TDI, this 5 wire is used for the pump, and the inj. no:3 is replaced by the Cam position sensor, temp sensor is in the return line on a PD motor, But both ECU is not compatible.
  
  When the key is turned OFF, all the power is cut to the ECU and the engine shut off, that's all.
  
  There are around 50 wire from the ECU to the motor and all the accesrories (MAF, N75, MAP, ect.....)

• Well, engine bay is done, the motor runs fine, I let running the engine for 30 minutes and to check with Vag-COM, all seems to me perfect for the moment.
  
  For the axle, I used the MK4 VR6 24V 6 speed, they are telescopic axles and direct fit on MK3 body with 6 speed, I'm very happy for this, less work and less money.
  
  There is the diesel tank to install, and exhaust, and I could go to tests on road.

  Nop, It's a TD e-manifold for the moment, with the transfert case, It do not have enough space to play with other manifold, anyway I do not have the proper competence to fab one of this.

• Well,  the Jetta is a very funni car to drive with this engine, the MK4 mount is very quiet too.
  
  I not install the quattro system, but I will install it this spring.
  
  The Chip tuning is now done by Redrotor http://www.mikrotuning.com/index.php It's a very nice chip, no overboost, no shudder, the VNT20 spool very fast, etc..... Im very happy, Marc said to me around 230-235BHP, later I will make a dyno to know the real power.
  
  The clutch is a little hard to push, like a truk clutch..  :?  ,   but I found a very nice feeling with a weird set-up, I put a 6 pad ceramic sprung center into the original 240mm dual mass unit,   , low cost and it hold the massive power, without any shudder or chatering sound, and Im very surprise that do not produce shudder when I declutch in first at a stop, It's smooth.
  
  
  I take a couple of pic of the car, the car is not washed, but I would take of another photo later, for now they are the winters here.
  
  I put also 4 new winter tire with stud, 195/65/15, It's very tight around the fender.
