Hello new member here just bought a 1.9 tdi out of a 01 jetta for my 99 ford explorer 5.0 awd looking for some insight on things I should know before starting the project. I already know I'm going to convert the injection pump to a cummins 4bt since I don't want to mess with the ecu and pass key. I want to keep my 4r70w transmission unfortunately td convertions only make a adapter plate for the 3L and 4L which have a different bolt pattern Windsor. Any help is greatly appreciated
Find a buddy who can write a dxf file for the adapter and just take the tin from the explorer 5.0 and the alh and have an adapter designed for the two to become one. 😆

Find a 5.0 dust shield the thin piece between the motor an trans and use the one off the ALH to lay out on cardboard or a piece of sheet metal and mark out the two on the same side using the tops of the two pieces as a starting point, and the centers where the crank shafts and flex plate are.
If you have a buddy who can create a dxf file for it.

The reason for a dxf file is it can be put into a cnc plasma or water jet table and have it cut from 3/8" plate.
The other dillema is how to mate
The tdi flexplate and 5.0 trans.

I could maybe use the flex plate from the ford 3L and it's lookin like I might need to switch the trans to something compatible with a adapter kit. I really think my trans would be the easiest and strongest automatic to use it really sucks they don't make one. So if I change my trans to the 3L I'll probably need a standalone tcm and is the reason why I waned to use my trans because it's mechanical besides for the overdrive which I could wire a switch

Is the reason to switch trans due to lack of fab skills or tools?
It is really just a matter of time to make an adapter on your own if you have a way to cut and drill.
Here is a print of the ALH to toyota adapter.
The circles with the smaller one inside is the vw side.
If you print it out on a large size printer paper you can mark the 5.0 holes instead of the 22r.

Even if you get an adaptor made, what are you going to use to control the 4R70W? It needs the ECM from the 5.0 to control it, or a standalone controller.
