Anyone ever have this problem? Stripping the head down for a rebuild, I got two injectors out, one is being a little stubborn and one I can't budge AT ALL. Soaked it in pb blaster overnight... nothing. Soaked it in ATF the next night... nothing. Open-end wrench and a hammer... nothing. It's in my freezer right now, for lack of a better idea. Any help?

Heat it up with a torch, I use two propane ones, then throw some penetrating oil on it while it's still warm, let it sit overnight, heat it up again and unscrew. Careful not to put any angled pressure on the injectors as you risk cracking the head.

This is the TDI forum. The injectors are not threaded in, they are held in with a little clamp. Don't bother heating. This is what I use:

I bought a nut that was the thread of the injector union, a coupler nut and a jam nut the thread of the slide hammer I already had. I welded the injector nut to the coupler nut. Less than $10 and 2 minutes with the welder. It works VERY well EVERY time.

probably #3 isn't it? I like the slide hammer idea. I know 2 different guys that had to beat it out and ruin the nozzle as they had no idea how to get it out otherwise. And it didn't come out easily that way.

I've pulled injectors in seconds that were totally encased in carbon from a leaky copper washer.

ive made slide hammer piece... only works when you got head bolted down to something... but works well...

Oops, thanks for the gentle reminder to double check which forum my unread messages are coming from. Please ignore, Sorry!

I've used it several times with the head on the bench without issue.

Looks to be like a 3lb weight.. noway it would pull the head around liek a rag hha.

<-----standing on front panel... 10lb slide hammer... 15min later...... im talking stuck... was so sweet when running you would see the stream of carbon pop out!! like a exhaust manifold leak...

Do you happen to know the size and threads of the unions?

I don't remember off hand... I'm too tired to go look...

Injector slide hammers are a standard tool in the TDI realm....Hammering the injector out and destroying the nozzle? What a hack.
FWIW the injector line thread is 14 X 1.5

Yep, I've seen this happen before as well.
And to confirm, it is m14x1.5

Interesting. I couldn't get 14x1.5 to fit, but 14x2 does. And I'm still not having any luck getting this thing out.

i think the nut i used was from a front strut aka 22mm one to remove to get the cup off the top.. but been a while..
i tiged black seam free gas pipe... hardware store less then buck.. and welded to nut that fits slide hammer.. you could use a bolt if need be with nut thru say a hub adapter fixture.. be a little offset.. but works...
also if you make said tool... lok at #1 and #2.. make sure it can clear the fuel pump.. too short.. with hub adapter.. clearance issue... the 10lb slide hammer i was using i had to do it that way as that slide hammer over 1/2" in diameter on the tube alone...
that 15+ min was horrific... i worked tooooooo hard

I tried for weeks to get these two injectors out with the slide hammer, and a 10lb weight added to it. No dice. I finally borrowed this from the guy that's rebuilding my injectors... he said he bought it 30 years ago while working on big rigs. I'd guesstimate that it took about 100 ft-lbs on that nut to break them loose.
