just picked up an 86 Jetta TD and the exhaust system is rotted. anyone have a performance downpipe for one of these cars they want to sell? going to use the car to tow a utility trailer so I'd like a 2.25 or 2.5 inch system. if I can't find a used one I'll have to go to TT.

would probably be cheaper to have one built, or ALOT CHEAPER to build one yourself, rather than pay TT 300+ for a pre-fabbed downpipe..

Your in Amurrricah, Is there not a muscle car hot rod shop in every small town across the country.. lmao.
Source it out, you could potentially save a few hundred bucks..

I have a jig made for MK1 2.5" downpipes. I would have to buy the material and weld it up, but I think it would work for you in your mk2. I know the mk2 doesn't go the other way.
If not before I redo my mk2 engine I will make a jig off of my 3" DP I have in it so I can duplicate it. At least that is the plan.

I'm just looking for a used pipe someone has now, if one doesn't come up in the next couple weeks I'll probably just get a TT unit. they're pricey but they make good stuff, always have had good luck with them.

mk1 will not fit a mk2... just a fyi...

Ok, I was thinking you could get a mk1 to fit mk2. Is it the tunnel? I know the mk2 would pretty much hit the shifter...like I said I was just guessing.

neither piece fits either car..
you cant put a mk2 downpipe on a mk1, just like you cant put a mk1 downpipe on a mk2..

PM sent. ;)
EDIT: Actually no, wait, I'm being stupid. NVM.

till you decide on turbo andy.. no that will not work... different turbos = different lengths and such.. different flanges too..

Yeah felt dumb after realizing that.
And I did decide on wanting a K24. Just need to find one w/ manifold.
-
Find a manifold and turbo, and then use a mk3 pipe. they fit and are much better flow. Cheap too if you can find a wrecked car.

Unless you have pics of such a working setup I'm a little skeptical of that. What is the mk3 DP diameter anyway? Probably not 2.5.

pretty close if its not.. its FOR SURE 100% better than the mk1/2 downpipes..
one thing you gotta learn bro, there are people on here that only speak the truth..
Patrick is one of them, CRSMP5 is another.. theres loads more too.. anyways, we arent going to send you on a wild goose chase over parts that will never work..
although, you will have to get a mk3 downpipe from a K14 equipped car.. i believe thats the only downpipe that will fit the K24.. because the AAZ cars never had K24 or T3 turbos factory..

Okay, didn't mean anything by what I said; guess the 'Tex tainted me a bit. My bad! ::)
My only questions are A) Is it 2.5" I.D. and B) Is it a toilet-bowl connection (know NOTHING about diesel MK3's; none come through the shop yet)?
If yes (or at least 2.25"), then I bought it 10 minutes ago!
And I know CRSMP5 talks in only truths; I've met him in person, and survuived. ;D

mk3 downpipe is stainless tubing from the turbo outlet, to the cat.. the whole downpipe is one piece, no cast iron downpipe connected to a toilet bowl headpipe..
-
but still he putting it in a mk1.. so mk3 no fit anyways... LOL..
in the end it will be a custom piece made..
the elbow... thats a mk1/mk2 part... and reality is your going custom off the turbo... the elbow is a cast piece that bolted to turbo.. then down pipe to that..

oh, yea.. that dont work..
completely missed that part of the equation...

Yeah, no worries; I'll see if the friendly local muffler shop is good for anything.
