Title: 2004 Audi S4 service
Post by: Powered by Spearco on May 04, 2011, 08:15:37 pm
We got in a nice '04 S4 in for some service work. Thought that I'd post some pics of the work involved.
Intake manifold was leaking, causing misfires and lean fuel trims. So R&R intake.

Valve covers were leaking oil on exhaust and down the front of engine. R&R valve cover gaskets.

Engine oil cooler/heat exchanger was leaking extrernaly. This was a good one to get to.

It lived here.

Had to remove the water cooled Alt. to get to the cooler.

Also AC compressor is inop. Oh boy! No to mention, its shaft driven off the back of the engines timing chains.

I always wanted an Audi Allroad (same motor). I just changed my mind.

Well, maybe get the shell, sell the motor, and drop in a 2.0 BEW.Those BiTurbo motors EAT fuel.

I'd rather work on these any day compaired to the A6/Allroad POS's  ;D. This is the 4.2 V8. I love the 2.7T engines but the bodys suck.

You said 2.0L BEW? Do you mean BHW? Passat.

Is it normal for the valve lobes to look like that? They look pretty crappy but I don't have any experience with roller cams.

That's a V8 S4, not a 2.7TT.

That one looks neglected.....   :o

They actually aren't that bad to work on compared to what they could be.

Sorry, no together pics, but its all back together.

AC blows ice cold, fuel trims are at 1.2 and -.9 for banks 1 and 2 for idle and trims for part throttle are at 1.3 and 1.1. Plus no more oil leaks.

The scary thing when putting back together was that once I hooked up the Rad. lines and pressure tested the cooling system, there was a leak at the Alt. fittings at the hard line connections. If you look back at the pics, I never touched them but luckly everything, the front end, was partialy disconnected. So getting to the hold down bolt and O-rings wasn't to bad. Replace them, refastened the hoses and repressure tested and all was fine. Wew.

Fun car. Not as fast as I thought it would be though. But still, its an S4.

Oh, that's the part I LOVE! I dig the aggressive wheels and the cladding on the lower rockers.  Tits.

You said 2.0L BEW? Do you mean BHW? Passat.

That's what I meant. Balance shaft problems and all, I'd take one over the 2.7 Biturbo or 4.2 any day.

I just got rid of my '01 allroad. Loved it! I'd have another one but the 6 speed this time. Or I'd take an RS6  ;D
