Someone whom i trust to know, just told me that the OEM turbo that was installed in the Mk3 AHU Jetta are becoming harder to find. Anyone know otherwise?
-
well, ahu's were only produced for 1 year in the usa, but for now the only "hard to find" aspect is that they are expensive new. Someone I know had a new dealer unit installed last year, so they are not hard to find yet. HArd to find nice shape and cheap - yes.

LOTS of turbos could have been sold in 1 years time..
-
so, selling a lot of turbos makes them rare or not rare? which side are you on here?

I'll call my pal at the dealer monday

well, if you are selling more units than the manufacturer is making, then yea, the parts become harder to find/more rare..
and if the manufacturer quits making the parts all together, then yes, the parts get rare..
im not sure what the case is here, tho..

even if they are getting "rarer" borg warner makes a new one that is nearly identical for several hundred less, my guy has the BW for a little over 600! Dealer cost on the garrett or kkk is 900 or so.
-
just upgrade to a bigger turbo
-
I don't think they are becoming hard to find. Its just that these turbos are beginning to hit the mileage where they needing replacement. The KKK and BW turbos can be found. I know I had one brand new and then decided to upgrade before I installed it.
