Post by: catlin_cava on January 18, 2010, 05:15:16 pm
So yea, I got mad with my last MK3, and stripped it all apart and sold most of the parts and bought a Subaru Outback...well the Outback is leaving my place tomorrow on exchange for a 96 MK3 2 door... ;D

They're terribly jealous too..   If I put the hood up on one of the other vehicles, even just to check the oil, the Rabbit decides it need to break something so it get's it's hood opened too... If I'm doing actual work to one of the others it has a complete meltdown...

The trick is to park your cars in an area that they can't see the work area. I keep my fleet out front of the shop and work on one at a time inside. For me I find that my cars are very jealous. Once I start working on them they just beg for attention. "Hey look, my coolant is leaking. Hey now my shifter linkage is broken. I'm low on oil..."

THe VW's were always terribly jealous of one another, and all my other vehicles, except my '79 Lincoln..  THey showed the utmost respect for her, and tended to run best if I was on a journey to get parts for her... Of course that was the car that towed them all away from an almost certain visit with the crusher..  Maybe they looked up to her as a maternal figure..  ???

Frankenbunny shed tears of antifreeze only hours after her death..  ::)  Tempermental little buggers anyhow...

this is actually true to a point.

when it was getting cold this winter, my audi would be a real pain in the ass to start. so, after a few futile attempts to fire it, i would just go over to my rabbit, fire it up and let it idle next to my audi. it never fails, after i fire the rabbit up next to it, it fires up on the next attempt. EVERY TIME...

seems like the audi is just kinda lazy at first, but then you threaten to drive the rabbit instead, and it rattles & smokes to life.

eh, even tho it got vegi/biodieseled to death, i still ended up getting a semi running 5 banger to rebuild. it was worth it even tho the car was such a junker. i just cant believe the thing actually made it 450 miles back home. glad the oil alarm worked tho, cause it would have blown up in longview had the alarm been tits up.

so there is my valid reason to change the motor and transmission lol

I know my TDI has some jealousy issues. When I was working on my bus, the turbo decided to blow shortly after, and it knows I'm looking for a second car since it developed a slight coolant leak right where the metal pipe plugs into the block right behind the IP. It manifested itself this weekend when I went to the Edmonton Motor Show. The coolant light started to blink, so I pulled off and added some water. It KNEW I was going to look shiny new cars.  :o I wonder what the '99 will do if I bring home a Mk 4 Golf project... It better behave though. I'm going to put its old heart back in it in the spring, but completely rebuilt with .5mm O.S. pistons.

I think I have mine is scared right now..  I buggered up my left leg a few weeks ago and haven;t been able to clutch so well.. So after a week of driving other things I decided to see how it was going to go..  45 deg F and the @#$%^& would not start.. I cussed at it, called it names and even kicked it (with the aforementioned left leg  >:( ) I threw my tool box, jumpers, and other various crap I carry around in the woody wagon and left the Rabbit sit with an empty tank and full of trash..  Almost borrowed the battery from it a few times too...  It must have gotten the hint..  It needed moved last night (12 deg F) and it fired right off..

The stubborn little recycled German beer can remembered who it's daddy is....

I finally got around to working on a project car (rebuilding an AAZ to put into a gas '92 four door jetta). Right rear wheel bearing crapped out on the one I'm driving, wrecked the spindle too. Guess which one I have to work on today..........  Took the day off work to get it drivable again.
Title: Re: these VW's...they are like a bad curse...
Post by: Rabbit on Roids on February 02, 2010, 07:51:21 am
you musta let the bearing get horrible if it messed up the spindle.

Heard a little squeak the day before, went away. Thought "I wonder what that is? better have a look...."
Driving it yesterday and got a sudden noise and vibration. Just happened to be right in front of my favourite tow truck operator's establishment..........  Turns out the outer bearing is fried, as is the spindle. Too many big loads I guess.

Good thing I have a few cars in stock to rob for parts! The spindles just bolt on.

The Old MK3 is a GL with such extras like AC and Cruise, Remote Locks. I'm using all those extras on the New MK3 since its only a CL  :'( With a worn out 1.8L Auto that doesnt go in fourth gear lol.

I need all teh shifter linkage from one to make it  standard and add AC lol

i live by this rule of life also. if it aint broke, dont fix it. or else build it until it breaks. lol.

my rabbit 1.5 n/a was so slow when i got it. i could spin the tires on ice, but not much more. that thing ingested soo much propane in the past. i didnt even know such a racket could come from a diesel with no internal damage. then i ditched propane because it didnt do $#!T.

Yep. Mine got jealous again. Went to Red Deer for the day (900Km round trip) to pick up a bottom end (Thanks Helliouse! :)) to rebuild my other ALH since the junkyard engine I got in it now is a problem child. And halfway home, the seal behind the temp sensor decided it wasn't going to seal anymore.  >:( Thankfully I found a gas station that was open at 1 am and got 2 liters of water to make it home.  :-\

I yelled at mine to smarten the hell up and stop leaking coolant. Another seal didn't fix it, so now I'm replacing the whole sensor and a brand new seal. It's being punished by sitting at home tomorrow while I take the truck to work. And maybe the next day too, just to show it what's what. >:( Also had to argue with the dealer to get the right sensor.

"I want the early one, one to fit a A4 '99, the 4 pin square one. It should be blue since the black ones are flaky. And not the Green round one."

"Can I have the VIN?"

"Why? I just told you exactly what I needed."

"I need the VIN, and won't send it without it."

 >:(  ::)

Lets hope DHL gets their stuff together and it gets here soon.

Well. I figured out the true issue with the problem child today after I blew $45 needlessly on a sensor and seal. After I put the seal and sensor back in, I took it for a quick drive. And just as I got home the damn coolant light came back on.  >:( So in desperation, I took the vac pump out to get a closer look. And to my surprise there was a weee little crack in the small air bleed line. The one that lets the air out of the head when you fill with coolant. It returns it to the tank.

So 2 spring clamps and a small piece of new hose, and the problem child is back in business... hopefully.  :P

Okay, I think my VW is conspiring with snowplows now....

IN the beginning of December I parked the Rabbit for the whole crack thing and drove my 91 Crown Vic..  It got broadsided by a snow plow.. Still perfectly functional but of course it was deemed totaled and now has a salvage title..

Fast forward 2 months and the crack mobile is spewing oil where it shouldn't again.. It goes on limited duty (which is fine I hate FWD in the snow)..  I reluctantly pull the 99 Vic PI out of it's winter hibernation. Last week, BAM, rearended by, yes, a friggen snow plow... Once again it's still drivable but about a foot or so shorter than it used to be..  It'll probably be totaled too..

I opted to then take the shop car today (POS Sable) and beat that about, till the alternator took a poo...  This happened immediately after jump starting........A snow plow truck..

So now I have the Chevy 2500 back from my dad..  I fear it's days are numbered...

(zipping up flame suit) I may have been less upset if the VW bit it over the Vics..  I have the little smokey bas...bugger  in many many many pieces in hopes of ending it's wrath..

The Chevy, well it's my last drivable vehicle, otherwise I wouldn't care.. It is a Chevy after all....  Sound's like I'm getting the '99 Vic fixed though, and that wasn't the best news of the week..  The old man says the Sable's going unless I wanna put an alternator on it.. DOHC engine = 4 hour alternator change    Can you guess what's going to happen to it??   8)

Now if some rust free body parts for a '91 Vic would fall in my lap this week would be stupendous..   At least in that accident I did get a bit of a warm fuzzy feeling when they had to call a wrecker for the plow truck..  Viola (yeah I name cars occasionally) took the plow right off and slammed it though the grill of the Chevy 3500..  ;D ;D ;D

I wish I had pics of the municipal truck...  But here's my heavyweight http://s295.photobucket.com/albums/mm124/maxfax3/Crown%20Vic/plow/ (http://s295.photobucket.com/albums/mm124/maxfax3/Crown%20Vic/plow/)

So...My MK3 2 door is still being worked on. Awaiting a new lower engine harness to complete the build then off to the body shop to have a strut tower replaced due to rot. Since my car is only registered as a seasonal car so I need a winter car...Been searching Kijiji for some time.

I've talked with this guy on Kijiji a few times and I'm going in a few weeks to give it a good look over but as it stands now I'm picking up ......... another MK3........with an AAZ ::)

OH The one that Pissed me off is STILL SITTING IN MY YARD!!!! Its motor is gone to Indianna and the transmission is sitting in my 2 door bolted to an ABA that came from Indianna ;D
