Has anyone used one of these title services where you sell them the vehicle you want the title for with a bill of sale, they get a title in their state and sell the car back to you with an out of state title. Then take that title to your home Motor Vehicle Service and they transfer it to your name. Like this form.

I have an 64 Vette that a customer dropped of about nine years ago(I do side work at home) and the last time I heard from him was six years ago. If I go through a lawyer in my state (Pa.) it will cost me about $1000. Pa. has some weird laws on abandoned vehicles. They become property of the state and get sold at auction and I get nothing because I am not licensed as a repair shop.

Any suggestions?

to me it doesn't look a legal way to get ownership, just read this part:

AFFIDAVIT AND BILL OF SALE;
I the undersigned, do hereby represent that the vehicle described below is legitimately owned by me,that it is not stolen, financially encumbered, salvaged or fraudulently acquired, and that it is not my intention to use the services of Antique Car Title Service and any or all their affiliates or associates for any illegal or fraudulent purposes. Value stated in sale price is the actual price i have paid for the vehicle or have invested in the vehicle.I am not using Antique Car Title Service and any or all their affiliates to avoid paying taxes i owe on this vehicle. I am not using this service to avoid safety or pollution laws. I am only using this service to help me acquire a legal title to a vehicle i own. I do hereby release Antique Car Title Service and any or all their affiliates or associates from any liability arising from my misstatement of any fact contained herein or any fraudulent use of this document. By signing I also acknowledge i have read the accompanying information and understand what i will recieve.

it can be interpreted in your benefit, or against you.

why not contact the owner, probably he would let you have it, or sell it cheap.

Mechanics lien. Sell it to someone in a state that does not require title after 10-15 years. NH is one.

I would be extremely careful to ensure that this is all done completely legally and above board in your state. I presume the guy who dropped it off knows you have the car and where you live. I wouldn't want to get into a situation where you do a lot of work or restoration, get it to where it's worth some real money and then he shows up and says "I'll take my car back now". If it were to come to a court case I doubt that it would look good if you had to tell the courts that you had sold and repurchased a car that wasn't officially yours.
