someone on my golf messed with the pump and bracket and I cannot adjust the timing. the bracket is a newer style one (requiring a 2 piece pulley) and the pump sprocket is older style (one piece pulley). After looking for a 2 piece pulley I ordered one from the dealership, but it came without the hub (only sold with pump)....so I decided that I would make my own......now....I have already made it but the question I have is......how can I make it lock in place for doing timing belt jobs.....the pump does not have the hole for the 6mm lock.....should I use the keyway aswell??? I will take pics of everything.....
please help me out!!
cheers!
Michal
The stock setup for that pump uses a 6mm slot drilled in the hub which lines up with a holes in the bracket, you should be fine with that idea
So I should just try and get the new pulley to lock as close as possible to the position the old one does???
yeah as long as it is close you should be alright since the actual timing is done with the dial gauge, not the locking tool. As long as the belt will end up on the same tooth you'll be fine.
I'd try and use the keyway as a guide.
