A couple days ago I took my beautiful BROWN 86 td jetta to the car wash you know wash it and all that crap and then i pop the hood and power wash it down quickly and after that it wouldnt shut off. So for a couple days i have had to stall it to stop the engine. What the crap! I checked the wire that goes to the fuel cutoff cylonoied (sp) and it looked perfect. So I hoping i will find out some info from you guys.

Thanks

Jeff

do  not power wash the engine on the td's.  If the injector pump is hot and you spray a cool water on it, it could break something inside.  Read it in a thread somewhere here.

I had this problem awhile back. There was a little bit of voltage backfeeding to the stop solenoid. I installed a spade connector on the wire leading to it and would pop the hood and disconnect it everytime I wanted to turn off the truck.
Turns out it was a faulty diode (the alternator light in the dash) that was causing the back feed. I installed a diode inline the alternator excite lead and haven't had a problem since.
Good luck

Can't hurt to be careful, but FWIW I have fully submerged the front end of my rig in water so cold you are unable to scream if you fall in, with no ill effects (knock on wood).
