1992 EcoDiesel/ Got mine going too!
« on: August 03, 2007, 08:16:35 pm »
Are 1992 EcoDiesels rare cars or something? I have one with a turbo injection pump on it. I just got it running. Rebuilt head, T-3 .48 trim turbo and a gasser turbo manifold. (sold off the dead stock T3 and funky flanged exhaust manifold. More to follow.
My car looks just like this(found the pic online)
1992 1.6 ECO with a TD pump. T-3 .48ar,
GTD Nozzles-I'm lovin it!!!, 47MPG mixed driving last tank.

2006 CRD Jeep Liberty with some stuff.....
Only 23MPG's..

92s are quite rare, there were only 50 or so of them imported. What color is yours? Black?

In 1991 there were about 750 of them brought over. Mine is Capri Green :)

Mine is white. It is a German car and comes up as Eco with the title and insurance. Is there a Vin Decoder somewhere? What digit am I looking at for the ECO engine code?

Look at the timing belt cover, there is the engine code on there. The ECOdiesel motor is 1V.

Also, if your car has dual radiator fans, it is an ECOdiesel. No other Mk2 sold here (here being the US) had them.

Tidbit: All diesel Jettas were made in Germany :D

I do have dual fans and the 5th digit is an F
( 2nd lowest output diesel 1.6 TD) my first 5 digits read: WVWRF

My car came with a freshly rebuilt TD pump, the guy had a reciept for a used motor out of Canada so it appears that he bought a TD motor and then had the pump rebuilt. He could not get it to run right so I bought it for cheap. It is a very clean car. had 206,000 on the odo.

Not to Thread Jack but, just after reading this thread I found a 91 for sale with a 5th digit of G according to the ABVWC VW VIN decoder, it's the "Lowest power, Diesel" would that make it an NA?, I am guessing yes..

How does that work Then on A2 Diesels 85-92

G = NA (Lowest Power, Diesel)
F = ECO (2nd Lowest, Power Diesel)
E = 1.6L Turbo Diesel (Highest Power,  Diesel)

I tried the vin decoder just for kicks and guess what it was wrong on 2 of my 3 cars , came up with wrong engine codes , gas not diesel or undefined. So it may not be the best guideline to use when researching options. Cool calculator just not always accurate. Cheers Dan
