Bulletproof ???
« on: August 02, 2007, 05:55:14 pm »
Just fired up my 90 1.6 na.  It had been sitting under my house for 2 full years although I did start it and run the engine for a few minutes last summer.  The battery is a VW OE from 2000 which has been on a solid state trickle charger for 3 years.  This engine is amazing.  There was no cranking - it simply started immediately.  The tires needed air but the A/C blew cold and the injector pump isn't leaking.  I bought this car as a back-up/parts car for my 86 Jetta but, so far, I've only needed to swap alternators.  I think I'm depriving someone of a good daily driver by hanging onto it?

I bet the pump will start leaking once you feed it a few tanks of ULSD :(
Waiting for a bigger better diesel to come along.

Hey STS,  How's the trailer?  Yes, no doubt the IP will leak.  However, the "tonic" of auto trans fluid plus 2 stroke oil I used to solve my 86's IP leak hopefully will work for the 90?  I'm not really planning on driving this car - it's not registered nor insured at this time.  Don't know how long to expect the D2 to stay okay.  Guess I'm taking a chance not running it all out and putting in fresh ULSD?  Thanks for the response.   Paul

If you are handy you can get the viton seals and redo the pump for very little $$$, I think th atmight have been what killed my 12mm pump off :( something leaking internally, hard to say it was so weak just a little pee dribble came out the pump lines.

The trailer is working great, I have th eborg cube back on top now instead of my cargo carrier so we can take the beast camping next week (weather permitting)
