Serpentine setup on A2
« on: August 01, 2007, 05:05:36 am »
I got a lead on some serpentine parts, crankshaft pulley, alternator bracket, misc pieces. Only other thing I need to come up with is the water pump pulley.

My question is, my car has factory power steering and I do know that the power steering bracket goes through the alternator bracket. Does anyone know or can tell me what I have to do to make my a2 power steering pump bolt up to the a3 alternator bracket, or such? I know there are pictures but I've never seen a detailed post on how to make the A2 P/S pump bolt to an a/3 bracket, or even better, use a serpentine pulley, if it can be done.

use the mk3 PS pump. It will bolt right up to your existing lines. I put a mk2 engine into a MK3 and I had to use the mk2 stuff, no problems. BTW I have a pump if you need one

The tensioning system on the Mk3 pump is a lot nicer then the 'hidden' bolt on the Mk2 one

Ok. That would make sense. However, how would I also run the power steering pump from the serpentine belt? And, does the pump bolt to the alternator bracket or does the pump have its own bracket that it bolts onto the alt bracket with?

The p/s always runs on its own belt. What engine are you running? THe mk3 p/s bracket does not fit the mk2 engines, only one of the two bolt bosses exists on the back of the motor. You will need the whole set up from a mk3, the alum part that hides the thermostat housing (this holds the p/s pump) and has a large bolt passing through the bottom of the alt bracket and the steel brackets one that is the adjustment side and the other part attaches to the block. Why are you going serpentine? I much prefer v belts, $4 each, no crank sprocket issues, easily replaced anywhere in the world...

I should say the p/s runs its own belt on mk3, mk4 cars on serpentine belt...
