Power Steering added to my Mk1 Rabbit Turbo Diesel.
« on: July 26, 2007, 09:25:55 pm »
Folks,
Sourced all of the componants for my Powersteering from a Rabbit Diesel Pickup.  Everything except the resevoir and resevoir mounting bracket.

So now I pulled two different shaped resevoirs off of two cars....one was from a Scirocco II the other was from a gas truck.  However, both of these are in locations taken up by the air box of my turbo diesel.

I want my installation to be OEM.  My bently doesn't show me where the stock location is.  Neither does the original owners manual.  Does anyone have a picture of a Jetta or Rabbit Turbo Diesel engine bay with Power Steering installed?

Ive seen a LHD Golf mk2 here with PS, it had the bottle mounted beside the battery, Ive seen another pic where the PS bottle was located in the grille location - it was a GTD i suppose

it gets mounted on the passenger side of the radiator support between the head light and radiator, i am pretty certain anyway.

Found pictures on Jacks site.  Can't believe I missed it before.

It is mounted on the driver's side in front of the Coolant resevoir and adjacent to the Windshield Washer Fluid resevoir.  Kind of mounted in space from the photos, which means an extensive mounting aparatus....appears to attatch to the bumper shock tube rails (or whatever it is you call that part of the unibody that ultimately you weld the radiator core support to)?

Ok, so from these photos, any other MK1 VWs have it in this location?

i don't know if you still need pics of mk1 power steering, but my '83TD had it stock, so here's a couple closeup pics of the location.  They're not incredibly detailed, as they were meant to document my intercooler install, not the p/s res. location.  Hope this helps! And if you need more detailed pics, let me know.
