To adjust the wasegate preload setting or not T2 turbo

I have a T2 turbo on my AAZ 93 Jetta. I'm only getting 5 Psi boost from the stock setup. I have checked this on a really big hill nearby and it just doesn't get higher than this. I have a brand new set of injectors, a fresh IP rebuild, and the timing is spot on as checked with the dial guage, 1.0mm of advance, new air filter, no restriction in the exhaust to speak of. I am considering increasing the preload on the wastegate linkage to give me more boost. Any comments , has anyone had experiences either way. It seems simple enough to do.

Thanks for the linky. The Pic was what helped most . I will source out the Norgren regulator R46-220 RNMA from the local pneumatic industrial supplier. It is much more difficult to find things if you do not know the exact part #, saves a lot of explanation to parts guys. Cheers Dan

Most owners/previous owners don't work the engine hard enough to operate the wastegate so they just get seized up either open or closed.I would check to see if its seized in the open position. You've got a new fuel filter on right??

I disconnected the boost control line and hooked up my guage to that connection. This resulted in a maximum boost of 10-11 psi and much snappier response. I am inclined to think that this max reading is because the turbo is a T2 which can't flow more than this no matter what. If the turbo were a T3 or one of the other slightly larger ones I think it would make more boost. As it is 10 psi seems quite safe to run without a boost control. I did investigate the manual boost control regulators and may get one for the wife's Mercedes which has a similar setup. The regulators themselves are quite cheap , around $15 from the wholesaler. Cheers Dan

My T2 boosts 1.5bar, 22psi, easily. The hose to the MBC popped off, and it jumped to 1.5Bar immediatly when I hit the throttle.
Now itīs fixed and I run 1.0bar of boost, even backed off the fueling a bit to save the engine..

The T2 should make 15psi with the wastegate closed on a stock engine.Yours could be stuck open slightly.

I have a 94 AAZ with a T2 turbo. disconnected the wastegate. At full throttle I can hit 25 psi no prob and back off of it. I cruise on the highway at 7psi at 110Km/h . Its not bad, but I really want to get a new pin for the aneroid. I am in Winnipeg and don't know where to buy one of those Rover Pins.
