653 km and still got fuel in the tank
« on: July 19, 2007, 08:00:25 pm »
I've driven 653 km on this tank of fuel and the gauge is a tiny bit below the mark between 1/2 and 1/4. I wonder if it'll make it to 900 km. How much farther do you think I've got? My old 94 Astro van once took almost 100 liters of gas to go the same distance

My best run is 997, I could have pushed it but I was going out of town and did not want to get stranded. If it's like my tank and you fill up once you touch the red you'll probably get another 100 or 150

59 more kilometers til I hit 900. The needle is touching the first red mark on the fuel gauge.

I did it! 900.9! The gauge hasn't touched the very bottom white mark yet. I could probably squeeze out another 100 if I took it real easy.

if i were you i would have a vacuum pump on hand and some diesel in a can.  because once the pump runs dry, it will need to be re-primed (unless you shut it off as soon as it starts to run rough, then maybe it will keep a little prime)

I ran 883km 530 miles the other day but I have the caddy 15 gallon fuel tank to help, it will be interesting next week to see what I get pulling a uhaul trailer from tucson, to mid michigan. I need more boost for the trailer I think 20 should do just fine with the TDI

good luck hitting 1000, what gallon tank do you have?

Not sure what tank I have, I assume the standard issue tank was 14.5 or 15 gallons?

Pretty sure you've got a bigger tank.  the tanks on my 92's are 53l, I've seen 900km on my wife's (1.6td) and 850km on mine(AAZ). Mileage seems to be better on both cars this year, not sure why. Has there been a change in fuel lately? I'm not just talking the winter/summer thing either, mileage is running better than last summer.

My owner's manual says 14.5 gallons, I figure I had maybe 1.5 gallons left? I wasn't completely on the lowest empty mark. I didn't completely fill the tank, I just filled it til the pump handle clicked then squeezed in another half a liter or so. I bet if I had completely brimmed the tank, I'm talking fuel in the filler neck, I easily would have gotten 1000+ km out of the tank of fuel.

My best distance was just over 1100km till the little red light came on...I want to say 58L was used...not bad for an auto.  5 l/100km

My best tank was 4.41 l/100km, I was able to drive 90km/h for around 8hrs....w00t exciting.  On the way back from Winnipeg with a full car of kids and crap.  Keep up the good work.  I have only been seeing around 6 L/100km's lately since I can't keep my foot out of it and rarely get out on the highway.
Waiting for a bigger better diesel to come along.

There has to have been a change in fuel in the last few months. '92 jetta with an AAZ, used to have a hard time making 750K on a tank in the summer.  Just ran 815k on 43l! That's less than 5.3l / 100km. All back and forth to work, with a few 25km trips, not ideal long trips. In theory I should be able to run the car almost 1000 km on a tank at that rate!!!!!!! (Never see it though, I'm chicken when I get to the red zone!)

Wife's noticed it on her's too, same car with a 1.6/k24
