Last Sunday, I was pulled over 10 miles south of Hayward Wis. by a Wisconsin State Trooper for my exhauste being too loud.
I had cobbed the throttle going from a 25 MPH zone to the 45 MPH zone going south out of town. This guy followed me, three cars back, for ten miles, befor pulling me over. Probably to see if I'd do anything else exciting. Traffic was heavy, so I didn't have an opportunity to spool it up. Made one pass on a car going slower than 55, and that was enough to trip his trigger.
Recieved a written warning for a loud pipe, and speeding, with no number cited. It wasn't a "fix it ticket", but he did say that it was illeagle to modify the exhauste on any car in Wisconsin, from the stock configuration. I have 2.5" from the turbo, all the way back to the rear bumper, with a cut down Cherry Bomb glass pack where the muffler was.
All I can say is good luck with that, as just about every truck in this state has an after market duel exhauste, and there are a few trucks in this state. And my Rabbit is a heck of allot quieter than a V8 pickup truck barking through dual exhaust with turbo mufflers.
Way to go with the speeding. That is sad. All I hear is trucks and harleys going by my house, but I have a feeling I might get in trouble as well.
I don't have to fight it. it was a non-fix it ticket. Essentially depriving me of my personal liberty for 20 minuites while he checked my driving record and wrote the warning was my only punishment, including the "speeding".
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out. Seems to me that they need a Db meter, and a Db level for the car in its original configuration.
I'm also a little peeved about the whole thing. Seems like pickup trucks and Harleys have carte blanche to do what ever they want to thier exhaust and I don't see them pulled over.

I`d go to court over it. The cop would have to demonstrate how he was able to determine that the noise level was over the acceptable limits and in that particular case, the ole` ear level test just doesn`t cut it: he has to demonstrate it with some sort measuring device. Once the presiding judge laughs him out of court, you could sue and get that new paint job,...

harleys have open pipes, why cant i??
thats what i always ask em
yea like a cop is gonna pull over a big greasy harley-stratton rider
yea i read somethin in a recent ricer mag,,where in ca,now you can go to a referee station and they can check your db's after getting a loud exhaust ticket
guess what?
like 75-80% of the loud exhaust tickets are being dismissed
tds aren't that loud really. i never got in trouble for my exhaust though, and i used to drive around with the pedal on the floor and the tach at 4-5k everywhere i went. when i got the ticket in my stock diesel rabbit he told me it was loud and that he heard me coming from far away. ***ing diesels haha.
the no speed indicated is bs, take it to court and make him prove it.
Here's what i did so i would not get pulled over for loud exaust and i live in milwaukee ! I installed Harley Davidson exaust pipes on my caddy never got pulled over again! L.O.L.

guys i think he just got warned for loudness and speeding... no court for him either way. cop just doing his job. now if he issued tickets... hells yea take it to court
What a pile of crap. The only thing remotely loud about our cars when the pipe is opened up is the turbo whistle...which I find less irritating than the sound of a civic with a fart can at 7000rpm.
I think someone has smaller than average appendage.
Was he driving something like this to compensate?
