I got 7 gallons of free diesel from a friend today. It apparently came from a garbage truck and was sitting in a barrel or something. I filtered it through some cheesecloth before putting it in my tank. I don't know if there was any water in the fuel, so do you think I should run some kind of fuel additive that removes or disperses water?
try sucking out a sample from the bottom+let it sit in a clear jar for a few days, look for sediment/water
please dont use yer lips to suck it out,lol
You might want to put double the recommended strength of Power Service Diesel Kleen in it and then fill the tank the rest of the way with fresh diesel.
according to trailer park boys, diesel tastes pretty good
if it's got water in it, you'll be able to see it. If the diesel has sat for a few hours, the water willl puddle in the bottom of the barrel. Just make sure your syphon hose is a couple inches above this level. The cheesecloth will separate everything too big to go through the tank pickup screen, and the fuel filter will take care of the rest.
Go for it.
I'd run it. I've been running some old fuel oil that was in a tank that i bought off ebay. Just been mixing some old oil and fresh diesel with it. and have been changing the fuel filter when it acts up.
Don't mean to hijack your post but i have the same question. There is a diesel tank out at my grandparent's.The tank is around 1000 gals or so.There might be some diesel in it but it would be close to 10 years or so old.Would this diesel still be any good? Thanks
