Federal Mogul 1st oversize pistons, local machine shop wants to know piston to wall clearance. Any recommendations? European mechanic says .001mm , my machine shop says that's too tight they recommend .003mm-.004mm). what's your opinions? it's for 2.4 td eurovan
Andrew will hopefully chime in, but I believe it is 0.0012 inch (0.03 mm) ... typical machines shops will balk 'cause this seems tight... but these engines are built to exacting tolerances.
The Bentley for the A2's confirms this:

and I don't suspect the 2.4 would be any different, given that they are pretty much 1.6 with an additional cylinder ??

BTW, my bro has the same engine and van.... nice ride !!
Thanks for the info. I thought so, but wanted to verify it was the same as the 1.6/1.9.
Well, its just a guess.... !!

what 5 cyl is 2.4?
1.6/4=.4 .4x5=2.0 .4x6=2.4
wait i think i might be stupid
1.9/4=.475 .475x5=3.75
Yeah, I've never done the math (and it looks like the cylinders are somewhere between 1.6 and 1.9) but if you look under the hood you see a lot of the same parts... have to blink twice to notice the 5th line off the IP.
There are some differences as well... the timing belt is on the other side of the engine as I recall. Haven't tried timing it yet... might be an experience. Documentation is a bit lacking... the Bentley is very very thick and insanely expensive, even for a Bentley.

5 cylinder 2,4 is internally 1,9NA with one extra cylinder.

1.6/4=.4 .4x5=2.0 .4x6=2.4
wait i think i might be stupid
1.9/4=.475 .475x5=2.375
i cant even do math right today

Haha I was about to correct you on that one
