Other info states up to 39 mpg. I think this might be a guess. Other market trucks by same manufacturer get 26 MPG average so about 30ish hwy.

There is nothing like it on the US Market, I imagine it will do pretty well, if they aren't built like crap.

Can't go wrong with diesel in my book, but I could only imagine how hard it will be to source parts in the beginning.

If only a more reliable source could be had for a small diesel truck :?

From what I can find, Mahindra has a relationship with Renault, so the engine may be Renault or Renault developed.

For a new car company, the warranty is not quite as good as others (Kia/Hyundai etc.)

They also have a fairly decent dealer network already started. In other countries, they contract out the service and warranty work to capable shops.

Overall, a nice proposition. I am leaning more toward the 7 passenger SUV.

i heard about some chinese 'disposable' cars... drive em till they die and buy a new one :roll: only difference from domestic cars, is that they will actually be very affordable (as opposed to leasing an expensive car, only to sell it and get a new one)

or... buy an older vw and drive it till its dead (usually takes about 5 years or so) :lol:

um i just watched those video's with the frontal crashes... damn those vehicles are garbage!!! it looks like the frame actually cracks... you would want to be dead if you ever got hit that hard... otherwise you're eating all your meals through a tube in a wheelchair :shock:

That's my plan....

My 2003 is the last new car I'll ever buy. I paid $15K for my 98 Jetta TDI and $19K for the 2003. Now a "2006" Jetta TDI is $25K and gets 36 city 41 highway... that is awful.. Besides, I just don't like the Jetta V, it just doesn't appeal to me. I drove one, big, slow, and heavy. I'll pass. I also have always had this mental barrier to paying more than $20K for a car.

I want to work up a fleet of 3 or 4 old VWs. Then I can rotate my commute and take one "offline" for maintenance or repairs when needed. I can probably buy them and get them into decent daily driver shape for the price of a single Jetta V TDI.

So, 3-4 older VWs sharing the load should last me 15-20 years :lol:

And, the crash protection for older VW's is actually pretty decent.

Yep, I bought an 01 Jeep Wrangler just last year and I'm wishing I didn't. I love it but it was more money than I should have spent. While I'm not getting any younger, I do enjoy working on older cars (most of them!!) and driving a perfectly good older car is very logical to me. Besides, most newer cars have no character, they all feel and look the same.

I have to agree. Current car prices have gotten way out of whack. Last new car I bought was a 04 Scion xB (15K) now the same car new is closer to 20K. My choice would be to buy a new diesel 7 passenger SUV or convince the wife to let me convert my current one to diesel power. She says no more projects........wants the house and barn finished. Women are just crazy,make no sense whatsoever!

i've just received my 2006 PD130 engine. 2000km's on the motor!!! that is probably the closest to a new car as i will ever get. it's going into a nice MK2 chassis

i also have a VNT-25 turbo to install as well. Peter will be trying to make some swap kits available so that any mk2/mk3 users can do quick swaps in a weekend type deal. one of his buddies figured out a way how to use very simple wiring to get the motor to run.

i think everyone should just consider buying the newer motors and swapping them into older cars... cool factor is pretty high for that

Yeah the new TDIs are awesome and all but for pure economy nothing beats a good old fashioned IDI
