Holy Cow :!: I just got my turbo issues worked out yesterday and then had to get better clamps tonight, but now that the boost hoses hold on this thing rocks!!!!!
my setup is a 1982 Rabbit Pickup with a brand new (work cleaning warehouse) 1.9 L TDI with a Mechanical Giles pump, 02A cable shifted 98 beetle transmission with hydrallic clutch. I have the biggest nozzles that VW mike sells I think .22 mm set at stock breaking pressure and a over sea's (work throw away) IHI ball bearing water cooled variable gate Turbo charger. with 2.5 inch downpipe and straight pipe (crush bend) the whole way back
this thing smokes my old 1.6 with the same turbo and a stock NA pump with the fuel and internal pressure turned up that had 25 psi and not enough fuel (I had the gate set to far closed) and I am only at 10 PSI since my variable gate controller needs to have some of the boost pressure bled off so that the gates arent opened all the way and get some more boost out of it, I will probably end up setting up an electrical switch that will allow two settings with 10 psi max and then a higher performance of like 25 psi
anyway thanks for all of the help through the years guys I appriciate all that you have helped me though and I try to return the favor when I can.
I will get pics when I gat back to michigan in a few weeks and can clean up underneath the hood oh and its got the 100 mm inner and outer cv's as well and soon to be sway bars and stru tower supports ot beef everything up for the torque this thing is going to put out
Thanks
Justin
thats what im sayin man,tdi-m's put a bad hurtin on the old td's
even using the td's parts(turbo, etc),its quite surprising
im never goin back
i still like them though
I still like the old IDI's as well and they are more plentifull for a cheaper price, but if you get a screaming deal on a TDI you had better jump on it!!
I might still ahve an IDI block laying around that I will keep as a back up engine but I shouldnt ever need it since the TDI is brand new,I am very fortunate and lucky that I got my shortblock and cylinder head free otherwise I would still be in the IDI boat
On the turbo thing Hillfolk'r I will let you know what I get for boost levels with my variable gate, so far I really like it, its still a little large for me I think unless I adjust the pump for more fuel without boost but this turbo was off of a 3 Liter originally
later
Justin
yea i still got my old idi td engine from my jetta(solid lifter block though)
yea if you find a good dealon a tdi engine ,,just get it and dont think about it,cause alotta parts swap,to "just get it running"
