« on: June 07, 2007, 03:42:12 pm »
Hi there everyone I have a 1.9 tdi 1z thats done 80k running 0/40
The tappets sound a little noisy so i checked the oil pressure and it seems a little low to me! Could you guys let me know what oil pressues at these temps/rpm your getting and if they are anywhere close to mine?
cheers.

idle 2000rpm 3000rpm
50.... 60 ..... 75 .. cold
24 ... 38 ..... 75 .. 176 f
15 ... 32 ..... 50 .. 185 f
10 ... 20 ..... 50 .. 212 f

This is on my 1.6 NA diesel running 5w40 Rotella Synthetic.

Idle cold = 100+ psi
Idle warm = 25+ psi
Idle very warm = 20 psi

70 mph warm (~3,000 RPM) = 75+ psi
70 mph very warm (~3,000 RPM) = 60 psi

Defintions:
warm - engine at operating temps (190F)
very warm - engine has been at operating temps for atleast 20-30 minutes

I use warm and very warm because it takes awhile for the oil pressure to settle on 60 psi while running down the interstate for atleast 20 to 30 minutes and then it will stay at 60 psi for hours running at about 3,000 rpms.   Running around town, the idle psi will barely ever get below 40-50 psi.  My engine has never gotton over 195F and I would be very concerned if it had.  I do not have a tach yet so RPMs are estimated.  Also, since my is an NA, oil temps my very from yours since your oil gets very hot running through the turbo.  These readings are all summer readings as I  just installed an oil pressure guage.

Edited - All readings are being measured at the head.

In order for this to be scientific we need to know where the pressure is being measured... filter flange or head ??

Turbo or NA ??

Approximate miles on the engine ??

Synthetic or dino ??

The pressure is been taken from the filter flange on idle it drops to around 10 psi.

You have perfectly acceptable oil pressure.  Bentley spec is 28 psi at 176 F at 2000 rpm, taken from the oil filter flange.

There is no other "official" spec to check oil pressure at any other rpm or temperature.

You've got 38 psi at that spec.  No problem, better than many here (including me - I'm pretty close to minimum Bentley spec).

Be careful of comparing your engine to the mechanical lifter engines, like people with the 1.6NA, as they will have much higher oil pressures than any hydraulic head motor.

just thown in a new set of rod and crank bearings and im now getting these pressures it only took me 2 hours to do in all so it waas well worth it if anyone else could let me know their pressures that would be great.

50.... 70 ..... 90 .. cold
30 ... 68 ..... 80 .. 176 f

I thought my oil pressure was low till I put a gauge on.

         1000rpm    2000rpm   3000rpm
cold      80psi        100psi
hot      16psi         37psi          65psi

I guess I don't need an rebuild anytime soon.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
