T3/K24 on a TDI? Anyone done it?

Anybody have any dynos?
How much lag can I expect compared to a GT15?
It'll be an AHU, .216s, no egr, no cat, SDI inlet manifold, will I have 10+ psi by 2000rpm?

Yeah, its been done. I believe Blake and Deo have each tried a K24 on their setup and if not, they've done the T3 from the IDI TD's as well. The K24 from the IDI TD's and the T3 from the older models as well both share the same aspect ratio specifications, etc.
Cold side .42... hot side A/R is .36 or .38...
They spool up quick and are efficiently making boost up to around 20-22psi or so (I had one on the original IDI TD GTD build), but will boost 30psi or more... efficiently at that boost...umm... no
The GT 15 is smaller than the K24 or the T3 from the IDI TD engines... a "newer design" being of the Garrett GT series but there are quite a few people that have swapped out their GT15's for the older TD turbos (T3 and K24, not an ECO diesel turbo which was a T25 i think) as an "upgrade"

I've seen a few things mentioned, but nothing that gives figures. I'm not sure which direction to go, PD130 vnt (downside is reliability), Saab GT17 (downside is needing either custom manifold or using GT15 turbine housing/wheel), T3/K24 (downside is lag?)
Any idea what sort of power and torque a T3/k24 can provide?

ive used both turbos from earlier turbodiesels on my ahu
and the garrett is way better than the kkk any day
my gtech gives me numbers of 130hp,and 230 ft pounds,,at around 3000 rpms with a weight of about 2000 pounds
itll run low 14s with a best et of 14.07
thats on street tires, and no "adjustments" for the track other than front tires@25 psi
the pic can speak for itself

Here a dyno run of my friend's AAZ 1.9TD, 11mm pump, Garrett T-3 turbo from 1.6TD, and FMIC, at around 22psi.

On the same dyno, here the VNT curve:

Thanks guys...was going to look for a few of your dyno plots...but that involved digging

That T3 torque curve is shockingly bad! For a daily driver anyway, and according to Aligator over on tdiclub i'd get around 140bhp flywheel on the stock GT15, with 200+ lbft torque at 2000ish.
Tintin is that a GT2256V? If I can find a cheap 8v turbo manifold from the US cheaply I would rather have one of those. They seem to be roughly the same price as a GT1749VA but have got to be stronger, especially as i'm only after about 160 bhp flywheel.
I actually had one last year and sold it for £50! What an idiot

No, the 164WHP dyno it's with GT2052V(VNT20) 28psi, 12mm M-Pump .240mm nozzle, on M-TDI ALH, and a lot of smoke
The T-3 dyno it's a AAZ 1.9TD engine, 11mm pump, and 20-22psi of boost, these dyno is bad, but, sitting on the car, these car pull very well, and the turbo lag is acceptable, that starts to make decent power towards 2500rpm.
Probably with the same set-up but with a GT15 or K03 trubo, the torque curve more normal and more representative of diesel VW, but would have been surely made less WHP at 3500rpm.

when i checked out the torque curve on the gtech,it was flat from like 2200 to 4000
remember too, that is "net" power ratings that the gtech gives you, thats why it looks "low"

IO don't know ..gtech is voodo math.. aree you doijng the dyno at waterfest..that might show different results.. your making the power though

yea,if those idiots can do it...
remember last year, they didnt have an optical sensor or some crap to read rpms
maybe ill bring my snap on "diesel timing pulse adapter"
and timing light with rpm readout......
im curoius too,and if they can do it i will
oh yea ,i need a mk1 upper grille spoiler too

no they wanted like 85$$ for 2 runs,,what a rip off
i bet i can get it done locally for cheaper,,or at least get more runs in for that $$$
some dude from euro tuner magazine was asking me alot of questions though......and wanted to see a dyno run,,i was hopin i could take a collection up to pay for a run

Hi all,
Just a few question about using a T-3. Oil lines can you use the stock AHU lines or use the lines from an 1.6 or will they have to be made from scratch. Also the downpipe will 1.6 or 1.9AAZ work? homemade? I can get both turbo and AAZ manifold for cheap, cheap.
Thanks Robert
