MkIII Side Moldings
« on: July 09, 2007, 11:10:55 am »
OK, I'm getting ready to paint the ol' Jetta later this summer (hopefully sooner, but likely later) and trying to do it right. I have a nasty looking rust spot on my driver's door and after poking around a bit, I discovered it goes in under the molding on the door.    I could just clean up what I can see and ignore the rest, but like I say....trying to do it right.

How do those moldings come off? I have seen pics of doors with them removed and there are several holes in behind them.....is this for clips? Or screws? And what's the chance of re-using the moldings once removed?

Aside from this spot, the rest of the body is in good shape. Should be an "easy" job, aside from the fact that I am changing colours and will have to spray the door jambs etc.

Someone who actually owns a mk3 can probably get you a better answer but on a mk2 the slide backwards and then pull off.

I had to ask because just grabbing and pulling usually gets me in trouble.

Thanks Tyler. I'll see if they carried that on to the mkIII.

It might slide forwards, I'll check when I'm at my garage. I'm a big fan of the grab and pull and then see what went wrong method

On my 95 Golf they were held on by two way tape, but I think that some of the earlier mk3's were clip on, a la mk2.
