garrett turbo rebuild....
« on: January 25, 2005, 01:46:59 am »
Well, following the suggestion on my turbo wanted post;

I have never even opened up a turbo before, but what really am I getting myself into if I buy a turbo rebuild kit and try to do it myself?

any special tools/ etc  how much time comitment needed?

What exactly does it involve? any special tools/ etc

Can I do the rebuild myself and have it balanced at a shop?  is this needed?

(I am pretty mechanically inclined, it's just this is the first time I have had the TD to play around with...)

I saw one post on the old board about rebuilds, but couldn't find anything else online, any links to info?

Thanks!

just put my t3 back  together. i never had any experience before  and i had no problems. pretty simple. i dont think it needs balancing unless you had a problem before. no special tools needed except a torch for heat to remove old bolt and broken studs.http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/fb774dd1/e12f/__sr_/72b3.jpg?phSDFBCBfcFJ.OMT
