I read something a while back about swaping the exhaust manifold and turbo from a 1.9TD to one from a 1.6 to get better flow and more boost compared to the stock 1.9 turbo and manifold.
Can someone please let me know if this is correct and what manifold and what turbo would be the best and would bolt right up.

thanks, but not what i was looking for. Someone mentioned using stock 1.6TD parts on a 1.9TD. Not a head swap but just a manifold and turbo. i cant remember the details on it so im looking for a little help

Basically the 1.9s have very small turbos which are great for off the line and around town driving. The 1.6s have larger turbos that are capable of producing higher boost more effeciently although the turbo lag is increased. You will probably need to customize your oil lines a bit but ANY 1.6 manifold will work on and all 1.6s have the same flange patterns for the turbos.
If you have a K03 you will need a downpipe from a mk3 with a T2 because of a different bolt pattern.
Actually if you have a t2 you don't even need a different manifold (I think)

As long as your turbo is the orignal one for the 93 golf then it will have the k14 turbo which already has the bigger style exhaust manifold used on the 1.6 for both the T3,k14,k24 turbochargers. It was also used on the early 1.9 (93-94.5??) for the k14 and T2 turbochargers.

Tyler, your right, the T2 use the same manifold as the k14, k24, t3.

Thanks Dave.
Smity I'll trade you turbos if you want. I have a T2, K24 and a K03. The T2 is probably fine as is but the K24 needs to be rebuilt
