yeah but what if the guy tells people to have their pump rebuilt?  lol... I'm very curious myself, and sometimes that is my downfall. however, around $10 usd is pretty cheap to satisfy that curiosity.

He says the manufacturers don't want you to know this stuff.  Why?  Also if you look at what he's selling, he has some that say Cummins diesel secrets, and some VW diesel secrets.

Probably all the same old stuff, tire pressures, alignment, synthetic oils, slow down. Get rid of all the parasitic drag like air conditioning and power steering. Cut the weight of the car as much as you can (take all the tools/spare parts out of the trunk!)  As for the pump stuff, up the pressures and advance the timing............. :roll:

Wanna pay me the ten bucks? :D

As for why the manufacturers don't want you to know this stuff, best economy settings are probably not best emissions settings.

So, I shelled out the big bucks and got my tips.  To review and critique:

1. "Drain engine oil for 8-12 hours." "You must use 15W40 oil no matter what the temperature is outside. Do not use synthetic oil. Synthetic is corrosive to seals, gaskets, etc. It also burns at a higher temperature, prematurely wearing out components and vital metal components..."  "The only place synthetic oil is safe is within a jet engine aircraft travelling at 500 mph."
   
    Presumably this is to ensure all old dirty oil is removed.  Good idea but based on many oil pan designs I am not sure you will get everything out even then. Personally I think draining it hot with a shorter drain interval is likely more effective.   I don't buy the info on synthetic. "burns at a higher temperature" - if your engine oil is burning you have bigger problems than synthetic versus regular oil.  I think the corrosive comment is likely taken from the early days of synthetic and the fact that it will leak more easily. (My car didn't leak prior to installing the synthetic oil and it leaks now so the oil has to be at fault.)

2. Paraphrased: Install the strongest magnet you can on your engine oil filter and your oil drain plug.  "This will keep all the metal debris from flowing back into your motor's moving parts."

     In my experience magnets are great as tattle-tales.  If you see an increase in metal you can assume something not desired is happening.  However, if you have metal debris, you already have a problem to some extent, and the filter is supposed to catch this.  The magnet also does not address non-ferrous debris.

3. "Free tip. Put one of those blue STP oil treatment bottles in your motor every 2-3 months after oil changes. It has additives that the oil companies have take out of diesel fuel to help the engines run cooler and smoothr and longer... FACT."

4. Fuel Saving Tip: "Put 100ml of acetone or 3.3 US fluid ounces for every 40 litres of fuel or for every 10 gallons of diesel.  You will go 20 to 30% more per tank."

     So adding 0.25% acetone will increase fuel mileage by 20 to 30%?  Tell me more about this miracle product!

5. Try to park in the shade as much as possible as diesel will evaporate faster in the sun. You will save approximately 1/4 to 1/2 gallon every two weeks.

6. Diesel tends to sell cheapest on Wednesdays.  Always fill up at the pumps in the mornings as diesel will go much longer when it is cooler.

     Most pumps I have seen are temperature compensated for volume.  Don't know how accurate the compensation is, but I doubt you'll be able to measure the difference.

I suppose for someone who just drives a diesel they are pretty good tips. As you pointed out though, some are just masks for existing problems. I also agree with you on the synth statements.

the acetone doesnt work we tested it in college and I have tried it in my car, all of these are basically placebos that make you look at you driving styles and habits when you are trying to get better milage, at first they may seem to be working because you pay attention to the way you drive and then you stop carring and start driving like you used to.

once again we are right back to the it all depends on where your foot is and goes

Ive seen synthetic evaporate/boil off from industrial diesel engines. I use synth in my gear boxes but I use Dino in my engines. Havent had a problem.

Yea..waste of 10 bucks.
