i have a 97 IDI, was told i need a new fuse box, is it the same as a gasser or do i need to find a diesel fuse box? thanks jamie!
Pretty good question but I think you could make it work with a gasser fusebox.
As far as I know the only difference in Mk1 and Mk2 fuse boxes is the place for the gasser fuel pump relay and the diesel glow plug relay.
I don't know if your '97 is considered a Mk2 because it's an IDI or a Mk3 because it's post-1992.
oh , its an MK3, maybe ill just call vw
ya ask the dealer for the part numbers for both. if they are different #s, try to find out what's different. if you can get a hold of ekta you can do this yourself.
All CE2 Fuse panels are the same from late 88 til the end of mk3production in mid 1998 (as well as B3/B4 Passats). I've swapped quite a few later fuse boxes into early CE2 cars gas/diesel doesn't matter. Should be able to yank one out of a car in under 20minutes. figure 25-75 from a wrecking yard. just make sure when you pull it out of the car, the windshield was intact and not corroded arounded the molding. Also check for corrosion on the relays and plugs when you remove it. remove and replace take me about 45min...
thanks a lot for the help! much appriciated!
