engine stalled!!!!!

history/make:
1991 1.6L turbo ecodiesel  212,000 miles
custom 2.5 down pipe and exhaust
no pump or turbo mods. car runs(did) great

i am driving home and get of on a exit ramp, when i reach the light my engine had stalled.(never happened before) i barley get it started and drive for 3 more miles before it was done. engine idled very rough, and there was a lack of power,also blowing smoke going up a hill(not normal).

i put the crank at TDC and the cam lined up with the head, the pump seemed to be in time with the check hole.

any ideas?

how do i check? i looked(tried) through the clear area, tapped it with my hand several times and saw 1 bubble.

Yup, looking at the clear section of the line is how you check, and if you saw a bubble you have air.

After that it's pretty much work your way back to the fuel tank... tighten every fitting and pay very very close attention to the fuel filter... many leaks have been reported there... either at the filter flange or fittings  or the filter itself.  If your fuel filter is due for replacement anytime soon you might want to start there and take extra care during installation.

the pump has been seaping a little bit for a while now. can this be the cause, where would i buy the gaskets to fix it?

Oh, now you tell us.  Another pump victimized by ULSD.  Yeah, the pump can be sucking in air causing your problems.  Personally, if your pump has never been touched, I would get a rebuilt pump and get a real turbo pump (not the ECO pump that you probably have) with the LDA on it so you can get more than 59HP to get 68HP.  You will have to hook up a boast hose to the pump, otherwise, your block is already a real turbo block and only missing a real turbo pump.  Giles could do it for you, I hear he is pretty good.

You might also have a load-reduction relay issue. I have a similar issue in my 92TD. It runs fine, then all of a sudden, it runs like crap, then stalls, then takes about a minute for me to get it started. Idles as like 300, no matter how heavy you lay on the gas, then eventually, vrooom. and off you go.

I'll have to look at my fuel pump too though. It only seems to happen within the first 15 minutes of driving, and usually when it's damp or wet.

I'd change the fuel filter first. Depending on how much it's leaing it may or may not be your issue. There is a guy on vortex selling rebuild kits, I told him to post over here, whether he will or not is another thing

last night i tried something. got the car started, very rough idle-and if you hit the diesel pedal it stalls.
i decided to crack the ejector lines loose as it was idleing.
first ejector no change/a little diesel came out.
second ejector no change/a little diesel came out.
third ejector-as soon as i cracked it loose it stalled.
fourth ejector-as soon as i cracked it loose it stalled.

does this mean the first two are not working and the second two are doing all the work?

That is what it sounds like.
If you remove the lines completely and crank the engine over does diesel shoot out of all 4 ports on the pump? Don't touch the ports or have yours hands anywhere near them, the diesel will penetrate your skin and you might need to get that finger amputated. Over the 5" or so of clearence before the fuel hits anything it should have slowed down enough to not cause any damage. Rinse the diesel off any hoses though or you'll have to replace them

S%$#T. i bought some injectors(mine did need replacing) but that wasnt the problem!!!!!!!!!!! i am going to do a compression test now.

yes, i tried to do it to a T. I bought the injectors, heat shields (put in the right way) and new rubber hoses. I have to find a gauge that will go up to 500 psi for my compression tester then i am going to test. My only thought is that i blew the head gasket between the cyclinders. when i crack the line loose on the first two injectors, diesel does start to come out, therefor i think the pump is pumping.

You're too far from me though unfortunatly.

Is your oil diluted at all? If # 1 and 2 aren't firing that's aot of fuel being pumped into the engine
