What I find curious is that the tach goes to 7K rpm, which diesels can't even approach.  It would seem to me to be a gas tach put into a diesel cluster.

Or something else even stranger....

that one pictured appears to be just a gasser cluster modified to work off diesel signal, with a glow plug light put in to top it off. fairly common and easy to do. the factory mkI diesel tach is what's interesting.........

Trev0rbr's is a gasser version modded to work with a diesel,  hence the 7k "unleaded only".

Waste of time IMO. The one pictured is the ONLY one I have ever seen and as mentioned it appears to be a one off

Highly unlikly, given that the wiring diagrams in the A1 diesel Bentley illustrate a tach:why would they do that if it was a one-off?

i'd like to have the factory diesel tach and the gas speedometer (i hate 85mph max speedo)

the 7k tach would be fine, just re-face it... the diesel CAN go to 5k+... most cars that redline between 6-7 their tachs often go up to 8k not too much of a difference

yeah especially if you plan to do any kind of governor mod i would let the gasser rev range on the tach,  that lets u rev to like 6k doesn't it?  so u only have an extra 1000 rpms.  and yeah i definetly like putting the gti speed in the diesel housings.  i love the 120 speedo in my jetta, it was cool finding out how fast i was going past 85 haha.

Yep... I did the gasser conversion as well.   I used the Dakota Digital converter / alt terminal mod then used a sharpie to "lower" the redline.

Isn't the scale / orientation the same on the OEM one as the gasser tach?  Looks like they just left off the last few units.   I'd imagine you could make the gasser tachlook the same as the "OEM" one in the pic with some careful paint touch-up work.
