Looking for glow plug relay info
« on: January 19, 2005, 09:34:53 pm »
I'll need to set up a glow plug relay when I swap the TD into my quantum. The Audi TD is a 5 banger, but I would imagine a 1.6/1.9 GP relay could handle the extra GP.

So where could I get one? Is a wrecker my best bet?

What does the GP relay need for info? Coolant temp and power in and out?

Well there are fast and slow glow plugs appearantly, since there are already GPs in the motor how do I know what type they are so I can get the correct GP relay?

Part number on the glow plug should tell you. I saw a listing somewhere (this site?) that said which one was which, and what number the matching relays were. Good luck finding it!

general rule of thumb  "brass is fast" (theaded end of plug)    silver   is slow(aluminum)  but, I recently got some 'stainless' end fast ones;  also the tips (heat element) of fast are usually tapered, but slow are full dia to rounded tip

I suggest using a starter 'push button' in place of a relay, and an indicator light from buss bar, at least you will know when it's working   8} :?
